Visit the Remote Ancient Shiva Temple in Tambdi Surla

Goa is steeped in history, culture and exciting folklore that has been a result of the intermingling of influences from North to South, East to West.

One of the earliest, historical and architectural gems is tucked away, deep inside the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary.

About 70 plus kilometres away from Panaji and the maddening crowds, this architectural marvel is dedicated to Mahadev. It has grown in popularity with time and visitors from across the world make their way to this spot.

The long journey makes for a good road trip. As you visit wild life sanctuary, the temple is located inside this forest haven. It dates back to the 12th century. This Shivite temple has survived the many perils of Muslim or Portuguese invaders and still continues to amaze.

It’s intricate carving out of basalt stone, set against the greens create a dramatic backdrop for the onlooker. The temple still functions and locals and devotees make their way to pay respects to the deity.
